The childhood scenarios are not as they used to be anymore. All of us who belong to the modern era observe the frequent introduction of new smartphone models, which is undeniably the result of rapid growth and development in modern technology. Although smartphones have already become an inseparable part of our lifestyle, it has massive potential to leave dark impacts on children’s minds. The highly growing addiction of children to spend hours and hours next to the screens of smartphones or other smart devices has already become a matter of concern for parents. Is there really any cure for this?

Negative effects of smartphone addiction in children

There was a time when children used to spend a lot of time playing outdoor games or getting involved in other fun activities. A lot of children nowadays find interest in playing violent video games, being active on social media or binge watching online videos and movies. As we all know, children are too young to understand the dark impact of all these on them. One of the darkest impacts of all these is that it’s keeping their attention diverted always, which is influencing their ability to focus on studies as well as academic tasks. In simple terms, aggressive use of smartphones may cause noticeable dullness in children that may deeply hamper their career as well as their social appearance.

Children may permanently lose their ability to build up interpersonal relationships as addictive use of smartphones and other similar electronic devices are passively causing loss of interest in them for face to face interactions. This satisfactory feeling of isolation may turn dangerous in the long run and they may turn into individuals lost in a virtual world while remaining completely unaware of the reality. Setting healthy boundaries is the responsibility of the guardians or parents of the children as that is the only effective way to keep children away from smartphone addiction.

Being a strict parent may not always be the most effective solution, however, it’s fine to be strict enough to limit the screen time of your child. Also, keep an eye on the contents that your child is fond of because inappropriate content like hate speech, violent activities or adultery may leave a deep impact on the growing personality of your child and be the reason for misconceptions about facts, aggressive mindset, perversion, unhealthy lifestyle habits or wrong life perspectives and goals.
